Brice, The issue of the heavily publicised security breach of sensitive information about UT employees was not part of our discussion on July 6, although the story was made public the next day in the newspaper. I have had requests for clarification from several faculty and staff members since the announcement of the breach. The attached letter from a distinguished faculty member with considerable experience in in this area (Jesse Poore) provides several concerns that I and the Faculty Senate would find beneficial to have a formal response to. This ties in directly with our discussion of System-Campus issues of IT - why this information was even present on a non-secure Agriculture computer is unclear (e.g. what was the need for this information there). What procedures have been taken to limit the distribution of sensitive information and remove it from locations where it should not be available? I would appreciate it if you would respond to the points in Professor Poore's letter in a manner that I can transmit to the Summer Executive Council of the Senate and subsequently to the appropriate Senate Committees. Sincerely, Lou 7/11/06 cc Chancellor Crabtree, Professor Poore
