FSEC Meeting Sept 13, 2021
President Report

Take a moment to remember those we lost from our community this past year - we are still losing people (Bill Larsen, Dulcie Peccalo in the past week) 

As part of call to order have everyone introduce themelves - unit, position, committee

Thanks to Brooke, Beth, Shawn, Rob and Millie for their support over the past few months

Main points:

1. We have invited Linda Martin in her role as UTIA VC - she will attend in Oct

2. Officers:

Prof Ernest Bernard has agreed to serve another year as Parliamentarian 

Formally, the Exec Council must nominate and approve Information Officer (Rob Spirko is nominated) and the Secretary (Professor Millie Gimmel is nominated) and these are to be approved by the Senate
   

3. Appointments needed - 

Research Council chair position open

Executive Academic Calendar Committee - reports to Provost - would prefer someone who could serve for 2-3 years for consistency - send me names

Student Media Board - oversees all student media - Catherine Luther in Journalism is serving on more year - need an appointee for two year term

COIA - Coalition for Intercollegiate Athletics - elected by EC for two-year term - need nominations

TUFS - Bonnie Ownley is rep elected last year for 2-year term

Appointed Prof Jessie Grieser of English and Professor Devendra Potnis of Information Science to Student Tech Fee Board

Appointed Beth Schussler to Commission for Women

Rob Spirko on the Commission for Disability

I will serve on Commission for Blacks, Alumni Board and Chancellor's Associates

Appointed Professor Qiang He of Civil and Env Eng to UTK Institutional Compliance Committee

4. Activities - attended Alumni Board and Chancellors associates gatherings, UFC meetings, UTK Leadership Council, welcome to new faculty, interviews for Assoc Ombuds and for Asst VP for Student Success, Provost academic leadership retreat, 

Organized weekly meetings of officers of Senate

Organized Senate Retreat 

Supervised hiring process for a new Senate Admin asst. 

5. Issues  - have tried to note all these on my website - campus cvid response, former Professor Hu case, ERP planning concerns, BAM transition, Global Tech issues, support for FS President, variety of issues at System level including growth in budget
