History of the Graduate Program in Ecology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville
This page includes various documents on the history of the Graduate Program in Ecology at the University of Tennessee, which was one of the first (some say the first) formal programs to offer a Ph.D. in Ecology in the US. The documents and interviews included here were produced in 1987, at which time the Graduate program had been in place for 18 years. The interviews were recorded at the studios of WUOT-FM on reel-to-reel tape by Pam Doyle, the Public Affairs Director for the UT Department of Radio Services. The recordings posted here include full interviews with several individuals involved in the early years of the Graduate Program, as well as those aired on WUOT-FM in July 1987 as part of the program "Segue" which included excerpts from the full interviews. These interviews were based in part on a set of questions posed to all those interviewed (included as Appendix A below). The documents below were written by Louis Gross as a brief summary of the interviews (Appendix B) and as a summary of the development of the Graduate Program.
