Math 152 - Spring 2016
Extra Credit Option
This option may be used by any class participant to increase their overall course grade. Any participation in this opportunity will not detract from a grade but only increase it. The option has a maximum point value of 4 grade points. This is the largest amount, assuming the option is completed very well, by which this may increase your overall course grade. For example, if your course grade without counting this was 79, then if you completely and correctly do the extra credit option your course grade would change to 83 and your assigned grade would change from a C+ to a B. If you decide to take this option, your report must be turned in during class to the TA on Tuesday April 26.
You are required to carry out all of the work on doing this option individually without any collaboration with any other individuals either in-person or virtually. By accepting the option, you are bound by the student honor code to not ask anyone else in any way about the particular problems you have been given. You may not work with anyone else in the class in any way on these problems, nor may you ask anyone in the Tutorial Center or any place else about these particular problems. You may of course ask other individuals about any problems not on your assigned list. By signing the card with your problems listed, you are agreeing to these conditions.
If you wish to do this option, you will be given a card with two pieces of paper with listed problems attached - you should keep one of these listings and turn in the card with the other listing on it. Print your name neatly on the card, sign it too, and return it to Dr. Gross. The listing of problems is a random assignment of 4 problems from Chapters 17-24 of the text that do not involve Matlab plus a random assignment of an additional problem from these chapters that does involve the use of Matlab. Thus there are 5 problems in total. It is expected that you do all five of the problems completely and neatly in order to get any extra credit. If you do not complete all of the problems correctly and neatly, you will receive fewer than the maximum of 4 points. You are expected to turn in, either printed neatly by hand, or using a wordprocessor, all of the problems. For the Matlab problem, it is expected that in addition to carrying out the work specified in the problem, you will print out whatever Matlab commands or codes that you used to do the problem along with any output from Matlab (such as a graph) that the problem asks you to do. Dr. Gross is available to answer any question you have about what exactly any of the problems is asking, but will not give hints or any other advice on any of the problems.
